Are you ready to put together your spring capsule wardrobe for 2021?
Spring will be here before we know it, and that means it’s time to share my recommendations for your spring capsule wardrobe!
If you’re new to the idea of a capsule wardrobe, here’s a quick summary from Caroline Rector of Un-fancy, who is credited with beginning the capsule wardrobe movement way back in 2014:
In short, [creating a capsule wardrobe is] a practice of editing your wardrobe down to your favorite clothes (clothes that fit your lifestyle + body right now), remixing them regularly, and shopping less often and more intentionally.
In her early capsule wardrobe experiments, Rector insisted on incorporating 37 pieces into each of her seasonal wardrobes.
This capsule wardrobe is made up of 35 pieces, all designed to help you feel comfortable and stylish at the same time. If you are a work-from-home mom or a stay-at-home mom, rest assured that these pieces have been curated to help you transition from home to the outside world without a moment’s hesitation.
Spring color palette
The most functional capsule wardrobes focus first on creating a seasonal color palette. This helps all of your clothes to mix and match well.
To incorporate the beautiful hues of spring, the color palette for my 2021 spring capsule wardrobe is based on these colors:
- white
- navy
- cornflower blue
- blush
- mint
- light mauve
Here’s is the general overview of the whole capsule. You’ll see there are 11 tops, 7 bottoms, 4 layering pieces, 6 types of shoes, and 7 different accessory pieces.
Many of these items have carried over from either the easy summer or fall capsule wardrobes of 2020 or are part of my list of essential items for a capsule wardrobe.
Let’s take a closer look at the pieces in this spring capsule wardrobe for 2021, shall we?

Spring capsule wardrobe: Tops
The first six tops in the capsule are almost all solid-colored and are wardrobe basics that can easily carry over from season to season.
Basic tops
White 3/4 sleeve scoop neck tee – This versatile tee has a double layer of fabric in the front, making this the one white tee that isn’t see-through! Finally!
Navy linen jersey top – The linen and jersey blend makes this the ideal fabric for spring. Plus, it drapes beautifully on a variety of silhouettes.
Blush knitted tee – The longer short sleeves on this tee really give it a flattering and elevated look!
Chambray button-up shirt – One of the most versatile pieces in any wardrobe, a chambray shirt can be worn alone or as a layering piece when needed. The one in the photo is no longer available, but the link provided is super similar!
Ivory and navy Breton stripe top – A true classic, this Breton top from Boden has long been one of my favorites. Their workmanship is impeccable, ensuring that the stripes actually line up at the side seams.
White feminine flowy top – Perfect for spring, this beautiful top features flowy sleeves and lots of eyelet detailing.
Fun Spring Tops
If you’re looking to add a touch of whimsy or playfulness to your spring wardrobe, these 5 tees and tops are a great choice!

Fun short sleeve stripe tee – A fun twist on the classic Breton, this one has short sleeves and coordinates perfectly with some of the cutest shoes in the capsule! Keep reading to check them out too.
Mama graphic tee – For any mom who loves a little boho influence, while still staying ultimately comfortable.
Mint and gold print v-neck tee – This linen tee is light and airy; perfect for any warm spring day! The neckline is called a “voop” – a perfect mix of a v-neck and a scoop neck and is very flattering.
Blush puff sleeve sweatshirt – The feminine puff sleeves add something special and set this cozy sweatshirt apart. 2021 spring capsule: bottoms
These seven bottoms are a great mix of casual fun and comfort.
Boyfriend jeans – This comfy, loose-fit pair of denim is the perfect answer for those days when you don’t want to wear skinny jeans again! Plus, the light wash is perfect for spring sunshine.
White denim – Nothing says spring like a pair of crisp white denim jeans. While you may think it’s not practical for a mom to wear white jeans, you definitely can! Wear an apron when you’re in the kitchen and keep art projects to a minimum on white denim days, or save them for special outings.
Button fly skinny jeans – The trendy button-fly from last year is still cool this year too. Paired with a mega-flattering high waisted style, you can’t go wrong with these jeans.
Pink five-pocket skinny pants – If you want to add a splash of color to your spring capsule, give these fun pink pants a try (they’re even under $40!)! They’ll coordinate perfectly with more than half of the tops in this capsule.
Light blue wide-leg joggers – These are an amazing solution for those days when you wish you could stay in your pajamas all day. They’re substantial enough to wear out and about too. Scroll down to see a few ideas for how to style them.
Navy leggings – What would a casual spring wardrobe be without a great pair of leggings? These ones from Spanx have four pockets and are well worth every single penny!
Chambray multi-tiered skirt – To add a touch of femininity and fun, this skirt is the ideal mix and match piece for any day that you want a slightly elevated (but still completely comfortable!) look. If you’ve never added a skirt to your capsule wardrobe, I highly recommend it!
Spring capsule wardrobe: layering pieces
If the temperatures where you live tend to change quickly from day to day, it’s a good idea to have some layering pieces included in your wardrobe capsule.
Denim jacket – One of the most classic pieces for any wardrobe, this jacket is a worthy investment piece for your spring capsule wardrobe.
